126 Sears Street

126 Sears Street is a digital installation on the facade of a Greek Revival house in Ithaca. For one night, the house was a sculpture. A video with drawings made by community members, photographs of regional examples of Greek Revival, and historic images are projected onto the exterior of the building. The live video is manipulated by an algorithm written by Jason Bernagozzi. Therefore during the installation the video signal, its pace and frame order, interacts with the data in the video itself. Each of the four windows are covered with a different image from the video. The similarities and differences between pictures align (or misalign) compared with the proportions of the actual building. Over time, the parts begin to merge and a new streetscape is created in our memory of this place.

This project was supported in part by the Experimental Television Center.
